Framework Guest
The founders, Stephan Hayward and Christian Buttress, of Framework Design came in to speak about their journey through their time of working at Framework.
It was interesting to see how they approached problems and interacted with clients in their office space, and generally their idealisms of what a good office/ office community looks like.
Hayward said he started his journey by coming from a place of sales, and he had to adapt and change his whole stance in the work environment to converge to the next stage of his career. He helped start Framework in 2015, where they only had one client at the time, with a humble beginning working up to the present day, they're now gaining clients as popular as Warhammer to deal with their busiest sites and servers.
Hayward explained that when being in that environment coming into a room to pitch an idea or explain why you can help a company with their web design is daunting, and nerve ranking. He goes on to explain that essentially when you put time and effort into thinking about your design and you have to be ready to explain why certain aspects are the way are they are, people are more likely to agree with the ideas when backed with evidence.
Once you gained a good working relationship with one client, generally word would start to spread within the community and more clients would notice you as long as you built a good representation, essentially that's how they grew to the success they harbour today.
They both also explained what they are looking for when they built their team, it was interesting to see that they didn’t have such an emphasis on software knowledge or capability, rather they focused on people with interesting design aspects and backgrounds. Their reasoning is that some people focus too much on learning how to use software and such but completely neglect the design aspect. They are more willing to teach a person how to use the software when a person has shown that they are capable of designing and expanding on ideas, then they are teaching a person to design when they already know how to use the software. It's says quite a lot about their company when their values are rooted in design before regimented execution.
