Behance Analysis

There has been some critique from employers about using Behance as the main platform to display your portfolio, it has been said to be seen as ‘lazy.’ The ethos behind this is that creating a website to highlight a portfolio requires a certain skill set, whether you want to go into the area of web design or not, having a website that you have built and invested time into would give an employer the impression that you have dedication and another skill set heavily associated with the industry.

Although, there are still benefits to creating a Behance profile, such as the community and traffic it provides for your brand and name to be seen by other designers or potential employers.

I feel that using Behance as a tool to give a much higher chance of your work being seen by others is strategic, and it is not too different to link the account to a general portfilio website in the ‘social media’ bar.

Creative director of ‘’Designthescenes’’ had stated that a studio would view a graphic designer with only a Behance account as a student rather than a professional. Despite Behance’s links to Adobe, I believe this critique to be accurate, as editing software is rising in the market and could potentially surpass Adobe. Using a platform that is not associated with any company allows the portfolio to sustain the test of time.

For example, Blender has been considered an industry standard as opposed to After effects, before that was not the case. Some believe that Affinity may place Adobe in future as well.

I am not too sure if personally I would use the platform now, since the site charges a fee, and if I already am investing into a website and have other free social media platforms to have a community to reply on it may not be worth it right now, at least not this early in my career. Although, I found it brilliant for searching for inspiration as an artist, as it is all tied into one, making it very easy to use and search for certain styles.
